Senior Manager, Legal & Compliance

A world class Germany-based automobile and motorcycle manufacturer. The Automotive segment develops, manufactures, assembles and sells cars.

Lead and manage the legal & compliance team;
Provide practical, timely and pro-active expert legal advice to the local boards, executives and business departments as well as other company's Group functions in- and outside Japan, on all legal and compliance matters affecting the sales entities in Japan and their businesses
Be responsible for the compliance management system, including processes, IT systems, and training programs for topics ranging from antitrust, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, business partner integrity, export control to data privacy and information protection
Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, letters, and other documentation involving dealers, suppliers, and other business partners Act for the organization to protect its interests in legal proceedings before the courts, government authorities, and with business partners
Be responsible for corporate secretarial tasks, processes related to company seals and e-signatures, contract management system, and other administrative topics
Work closely with external counsel
Plan, steer and coordinate the legal & compliance budget

Qualified lawyer in Japan (bengoshi) or other jurisdiction
At least 5 years of experience in an international law firm, major in-house legal and/or compliance department
At least 2 years of team management experience
IT skills, including MS Office applications (esp. Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel)
Strong commercial background, business judgment and ability to qualify potential risks
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and team player
Excellent judgment, common sense, able to find pragmatic solutions in ambiguous environments
Able to prioritize and deliver on time while managing many diverse projects
Native-level Japanese and at least business-level English (written and spoken)
