Importance of Showing Passion During Your Interview
Recently, we find that the most common reason why candidates do not pass their interviews is because they are showing a lack of passion for the company and/or the position for which they are applying. Candidates are not able to answer and convince interviewers why they want to join the company and/or why they are interested in the position.
This could possibly be due to a lack of studying and preparation for the interview by candidates. Another reason could be that candidates are not able to show or give solid and detailed examples to questions regarding the company/position.
We see that most interviewers test if candidates have passion for the company/position by asking a simple and direct question such as, "Why are you interested in our company/position?"
Other interviewers also ask, "Can you tell me what you know about our company/position?"
Some interviewers may even talk about their company products/services or use specific company terminology or acronyms. For this matter, interviewers expect that the candidates know and understand what they are talking about and are able to discuss related topics specifically.
Therefore, candidates need to better prepare themselves for the interviews by studying and doing more online research about the company and/or position.
Candidates should start by looking at the company's website and learning the following:
- What does the company do? What is the business model? etc?
- What are the different products/services the company provides?
- What are this company's strengths and weaknesses?
- What can this company provide me?
- Who are the company’s customers, vendors, suppliers, etc?
In addition, candidates should also think about the following questions and prepare answers for them:
- How can this company/position help me in my career growth?
- How can I contribute to this position with my skills and experiences?
- What do I want to achieve in this position and company?
- What others area(s) of business do I have interest in?
Having and showing your passion for the company and position is vital, and one of the important keys to passing your interview.
